QRS March Public Launch
Monday, March 15, 2010 at 6:00PM The first public launch for Queensland Rocketry Society of 2010 was held on the 14th of March. It proved to be a morning of very variable weather, swinging from sunny to pouring rain on a couple of occasions.
The crowd however did show up despite the weather forecast, an estimated 400 people were present to watch some great launches.
As well as a number of great flights, also on display for the first time in public was Ari's newest rocketry creation, his Oz Thunder - an Ultimate Wildman kit build. It looked sensational and I think we are all looking forward to its maiden flight.
I personally flew my Callisto twice, once on a G76-7G and after battling with another RMS motor that just didn't want to work with me it finally flew again on a G80-10T single-use. They were both great flights, straight up and recovered nicely, although the second flight did make for a considerable walk to pick it up.
Another great day for QRS with some great launches and despite the weather a great crowd who all seemed to enjoy themselves, congratulations to all those involved in putting the day together.
As a bit of a foot note, Channel Ten's "Totally Wild" crew spent the whole morning with us filming our launch and interviewing a number of people, so keep an eye out for that TV spot sometime in the future. I'll also make sure it is mentioned here on Ausrockets as soon as we know more!
Enjoy the video of just some of the day's launches!
